TOPIC: Strategic Planning

Companies that consider for the future are better able to manage today and prepare for tomorrow. Strategic planning is a process for building a bridge between today and the most probable future.

In 4 short hours, you will be able to forecast the future, review your core ideology, identify your competitors' key strengths, discover your strategic direction and identify your competitive advantage. These decisions will provide you with a skeleton around which you will build your business plan. A pre-work package will be provided. You will make these basic decisions using your own company information.

Previous participants identified new products and services, identified new marketplaces, clarified their value proposition and tested competitive trade-offs to ensure that clients received the best value and that the companies developed loyal and satisfied clients.

Pre-Registration and advance payments are required. Seating is limited and registrations will be dealt with on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please call the Calgary APEGGA office at 262-7714 to register before Monday, January 26, 2004. The Calgary Branch now accepts Visa, MasterCard, or American Express. Please note: A light snack will be provided.

FACILITATOR: Dr. June Donaldson, Certified Mediator and Arbitrator, Donaldson & Associates, Inc.

TOPIC: Emotional Intelligence - "Don't leave home or go home, without it!"

In 1995, TIME Magazine pointed out what astute leaders and business professionals have been saying about emotional intelligence, making it even more relevant today. "IQ (intellectual intelligence) gets you hired but EQ (emotional intelligence) gets you promoted."

Current emotional intelligence research indicates that in all jobs, in every field, and at every level, emotional competence is twice as important as purely cognitive abilities and technical skills. (Goleman, 1998)

Dr. June Donaldson's model of emotional intelligence is known as Emotional SMARTS!®. It identifies the A, B, C, Ds of being emotionally smart. The "A" Cornerstone relates to Awareness Skills; the "B" relates to appropriate Behaviours; the "C" relates to Contact or connection skills; and the "D" relates to Decision Making - core competencies said to be at the foundation of emotional intelligence.

Dr. June (not to be confused with Dr. Laura or Dr. Ruth) will present an Emotional SMARTS!® overview in an informative, interactive, and fun seminar. You will leave the seminar with workable ideas on how to get and stay grounded, centered, and focused so you achieve even greater results for your time, money, energy, resources, and talent. Come and join us at the first seminar of 2004!

Pre-Registration and advance payments are required. Rregistrations will be dealt with on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please call Shirley Layne at the APEGGA office (426-3990) to register or via email - slayne@apegga.org. The deadline to register is Monday, January 26 - registration fee is non-refundable after this date. We accept Visa, MasterCard, or American Express. Please note: A light snack will be provided.
