GUEST SPEAKER: Paul Newman, P.Eng., Vice President, Engineering for Alternative Fuel Systems Inc.
TOPIC: "Engineering Opportunities in Natural Gas for Vehicles Technology Development"
Paul will talk about some of the technology development going on in the natural gas for vehicles industry, and bring his perspective to the engineering challenges and successes encountered in this field.
Paul's work has centred around exhaust emission reduction technologies. He and his team have successfully achieved breakthrough (low emission vehicle) emissions at the Japan Automobile Research Institute (JARI) with a diesel dual fuel engine equipped with his company's own electronic control package, electronically-controlled catalytic converter, and cooled exhaust gas recirculation.
Although Paul's work has centred around automotive exhaust emission reduction technologies using natural gas, his scope has expanded into other environmental technologies, including the innovative use of hydrogen. Paul is the co-inventor of an exciting technology combining hydrogen and natural gas dynamically for synergistic emissions, performance and economic advantages. Expanded use of hydrogen has become one of his priorities, with a focus on a "pathway to the hydrogen economy".
