TOPIC: Genesee 3 - 495 MW Supercritical Pressure , Coal Fired Generating Unit.

Located 70 KM south east of Edmonton, Genesee 3 is Canada's first supercritical pressure coal fired generating unit. A joint venture of EPCOR Power Development Corporation and Trans Alta Energy Corporation, the unit is designed to supply merchant power to the Alberta Grid.

The major equipment consists of a once through, single reheat, balanced draft, Benson type supercritical pressure boiler and a single high efficiency tandem-compound, double flow exhaust, reheat condensing turbine coupled to a hydrogen cooled synchronous alternator. Emissions control equipment consists of low-NOx burners and spray dryer absorbers and a fabric filter for SO2 and particulate emission control.

Fuel will be supplied from the nearby Genesee surface mine.

The significant technical features and an overview of the management structure of the project will be presented.
