distinction relating to the science of
engineering, geology or geophysics as an executive or director of an outstanding
project or
continuing enterprise in which the member has conducted, guided or directed or
was responsible
for the practice of the specific profession. The nominee may have also attained
the highest
distinction because of invention, research or original work, or an outstanding
or exemplary career in
teaching the professions.
Doug Baldwin was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan in 1936. He received his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon in 1958.
Mr. Baldwin was employed with Imperial Oil for more than 40 years, including 10 years as a director of the company.
In 1983, Mr. Baldwin was named Production Manager, Producing Department, Exxon Corporation in New York and returned to Esso Resources Canada Limited in 1986 when he was appointed Vice-President of Business Services. He was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Esso Resources Canada Limited in January 1988.
Mr. Baldwin was appointed as a Director of Exxon Production Research Company in February 1988 and a Director of Imperial Oil in October 1988. He was named to the position of Senior Vice-President and Director of Imperial Oil Limited, with responsibility for the resources division of Imperial Oil, in 1992. In 1994, Mr. Baldwin was appointed a Director of the Imperial Oil Charitable Foundation and appointed a Director of Exxon Exploration company in 1996. He retired from Imperial Oil and its affiliated companies at the end of 1998.
Mr. Baldwin was elected to the TransCanada PipeLines Limited Board of Directors on April 30, 1999 and was appointed interim Chief Executive Officer effective August 1, 1999. He was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of TransCanada on September 22, 1999 and retired from the position on May 1, 2001.
