EnCana Corporation received shareholder approval on November 25, 2009 to reorganize the company into two highly focused energy companies: Cenovus Energy Inc., an integrated oil company and EnCana Corporation, a pure play North American-focused natural gas producer.
Cenovus Energy Inc. will be focused on the development of EnCana's Canadian enhanced oil assets and United States refinery interests, underpinned by a well-established natural gas and oil production base in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
EnCana's other major operating divisions, Canadian Foothills and USA, will form the pure-play natural gas growth company, aimed at growing existing high-potential resource plays in Canada and the U.S. This natural gas company represents about two-thirds of EnCana's current production and proved reserves at year-end 2008.
Mike Graham will talk about the reasons behind the split, as well as the outlook for EnCana in an increasingly competitive North American natural gas business. He will talk about the emerging unconventional plays and the technology necessary to unlock these plays. He will also showcase EnCana’s low-cost leadership and portfolio of unconventional gas plays, focusing on the Horn River and Montney natural gas plays in Western Canada.
