A generation ago, young professionals entering business acquired in public school all the essential skills of preparing business communications: legible handwriting and the ability to dictate a memorandum to someone with the skills to type, format, and spell it correctly. Today the secretarial skills of yesteryear have been absorbed into the role of the professional himself, who must gain through casual use the sophisticated skills required to make appropriate use of today’s sophisticated communications tools. At the same time, an important layer of reconsideration and language filtering -- and delay! -- formerly provided by the secretarial staff, has been removed, making it faster and easier to disseminate sometimes ill-considered communications.

But as Engineers, Geological and Geophysical professionals, our one real product is information, and business documents are the means by which we deliver that product to our customers. The higher the quality of our documents, the more professional we appear in the delivery of our product. We've all heard the old saw, "Four years ago I couldn't even spell Ingenier, now I are one!” But in the twenty-first century, that joke has lost its aptness. Today, Engineers, Geological and Geophysical professionals must lead industry in the clarity and quality of their professional communications.

Please call the Calgary APEGGA office at 262-7714 to register before Friday, October 6, 2006. The Calgary Branch accepts Visa, MasterCard, or American Express.  Please note:  A light Pre-Registration and advance payments are required.  Seating is limited and registrations will be dealt with on snack will be provided.

Over the past number of years, there have been numerous reviews and investigations by the Federal Competition Bureau concerning retail gasoline pricing in Canada. This has surfaced primarily due to consumer frustration on retail prices which in turn created concerns from many levels of Government. The reports resulting from these reviews have not discovered significant issues but the consumer frustration continues to exist.

This presentation will review the background on market dynamics beginning with the crude oil market and ending with the local retail gasoline / diesel dealer. Common questions such as why do prices move in unison; why price differentials from town to town; why prices are lower in USA; and how can retail prices swing significantly in one year will be reviewed in this presentation.
