AN APEGGA CLAN |
A civil engineer involved a number of significant Alberta landmarks and projects, including the Saddledome in Calgary and the Jasper Avenue LRT in Edmonton, has died at age 57 after a two-year battle with cancer. Dale Tutty, P.Eng., of Spruce Grove passed away on Jan. 23.
Mr. Tutty earned his P.Eng. in 1974 and he lived and breathed engineering. “There was never a man more proud of the Iron Ring and all it stood for,” says an e-mail from his family. He could recite The Calling of the Iron Ring, and did, to his future wife when they first met.
“His integrity never faltered in his work, and he was truly dedicated — Rudyard Kipling would have been so proud of him,” says the e-mail.
Loved and respected by many engineers and other colleagues, Mr. Tutty worked on the University of Alberta Hospital and the twin concrete bridges over the Athabasca Falls.
Mr. Tutty was never just an academic. “He liked nothing more than to roll up his sleeves, muck in and sort out problems on site. He valued every man on every job.”
He is survived by his wife, Joan, his mother, Daphne, and six brothers and sisters.
