APEGGA member and Calgarian Laura Wall, E.I.T., has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship by the Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation to further her master’s degree work at the University of Alberta.

Memorial foundation scholarships are awarded to honour the memories of 14 women killed at École Polytechnique and are meant to encourage women to choose careers in engineering. Ms. Wall’s is one of eight scholarships the foundation awarded to women from across Canada, this year — one worth $15,000, two worth $10,000 and the others worth $5,000.

Inco Limited has partnered with the foundation to offer the two master’s degree scholarships, new to the program this year.

Laura Kennett of Edmonton, studying at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ont., received a $5,000 scholarship this year.

Said Suzelle Barrington, ing., president of the foundation: “These eight women are truly remarkable — they are strong leaders, they volunteer in their communities, they work hard to encourage others, and they are actively involved in their educations and extracurricular activities.”

Ms. Wall, who is studying materials engineering, is involved with Girl Guides of Canada, Minds in Motion and the APEGGA Outreach Program.
