WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME

new series answers a recurring question

When staff members chat with new graduates and other potential members, a question often asked is, “What’s in it for me?”

The simple answer is that APEGGA provides you a licence to practice engineering, geology or geophysics. Without a licence, you can’t legally practice.

But even though licensure and the enforcement of the EGGP Act are our primary roles, APEGGA offers a wide range of benefits to its members. This is the first in a series of articles describing these programs.

The Esso Business Card Program
Much of Alberta’s economy is driven by the oil and gas industry, so when the price of oil rises to record levels as it has in this past year, Albertans take notice. While there is little doubt that members benefit financially from high oil prices, either directly or indirectly, it is also true that the subsequent rise in the price of automotive fuel has an impact as well.

Aimed at small businesses and individuals who use their vehicles for work, the Esso Business Card program allows you to take advantage of the buying power of our 42,000-plus members to obtain discount pricing on fuel and other automotive-related fluids. The card itself is an Esso-specific credit card accepted at over 2,000 Esso-branded stations across Canada.

When you receive your monthly statement, any fuel, lubricant, washer fluid or car-wash purchases are discounted by 4.5 per cent. This is in addition to any at-the-pump discounts that might apply.
The Esso Business Card also allows you to take advantage of the Esso Extra or Aeroplan rewards programs and the Esso Speedpass program.

All APEGGA members, including ASAP student members, members-in-training, life members and others, are eligible for the program. To apply, simply go to APEGGA’s website at www.apegga.org and click on Member Benefits. (click here)

Since the inception of the program in late 2004 to the end of May 2005, 349 members have joined the program and have saved a total of $6,200.
