Education Foundation

FIST FULL OF DOLLARS

APEGGA Education Foundation President David Devenny, P.Eng., P.Geol., fans a clutch of bucks raised from golfers, Aug. 20. Golfers at the 30th annual APEGGA Golf Tournament were asked for voluntary donations to the foundation with their registrations for the event at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club.

The request netted $1,830 — with $1,000 of that coming from one APEGGA permit holder, Earth Tech. Entry fees for a putting contest and contests on the 17th hole raised another $960 for the foundation, bringing the total to $2,790.

Dr. Devenny said, because of a funding change with APEGGA, the foundation needs $100,000-plus a year in donations to maintain its current scholarships and awards. “It will be a challenge,” he said. The golf money, however, is a good start, and he encourages other tournament organizers to use their events as foundation fundraisers.
