HISTORIC MEETING
In early September, an historic meeting in Edmonton brought together the chief staff officers of engineering and technology organizations from Ontario, B.C. and Alberta. The event marked the first time that the organizations have come together to discuss common interests and concerns.
Issues discussed included the roles of the professions and appropriate legislation; the career ladder and how the professions accommodate it and relate to one another; the need for continuing education; and a national framework for regulation of the professions in the public interest. Building on the success of this initial meeting, the group plans to meet again in a few months to follow up on work that each organization will undertake on the issue of uniform professional regulatory standards in Canada.
