APEGA Name Change

NEWSPAPER CORRECTION

An article which recently appeared in both the Calgary Herald and Edmonton Journal contained incorrect information about APEGA.

The article stated that base engineering salaries are typically “set” by professional engineering organizations in each province, including The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta.

It is, of course, the marketplace that determines the salaries of professional engineers and geoscientists in Alberta and across Canada. In no way does APEGA set salaries for members.

APEGA submitted letters to the editor notifying the publications of the error and in response, both the Calgary Herald and Edmonton Journal ran corrections, as follows:

Calgary Herald, July 10, page A2

It is the marketplace that determines the salaries of professional engineers and geoscientists in Alberta and across Canada. Incorrect information appeared in an article on Page G1 of the Herald on June 30.

Edmonton Journal, July 11, page A2

The marketplace determines the base salaries for professional engineers and geoscientists in Alberta and across Canada. A July 7 Postmedia story, "Big oilpatch players flex their muscle in talent recruitment," contained incorrect information about how salaries are set.
