PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE EXAMINATION
TWO DAY SEMINAR

Four times per year MIT’s and internationally-educated engineers and geoscientists write the Professional Practice Examination to qualify for full professional membership with APEGGA. Applicants will have the opportunity to take this optional two-day seminar to assist them to understand the underlying concepts covered in the exam. Seminars will be limited to 20 participants. Priority will be given to those who have applied to write the exam.

The exam is based on five areas:

1. Professionalism, including ethical standards and codes, environmental responsibilities, etc.
2. Professional Practice, including competence, risk management, etc.
3. Regulatory Authority Requirements, such as OHS and WCB
4. Law and Legal Concepts, including contracts, intellectual property, etc.
5. The Acts, including regulations and bylaws, use of stamps, etc.

Participants in the seminar will gain maximum value from the seminar if they have read the recommended textbooks prior to attending the seminar. While the seminar will assist candidates in their preparation by helping with the understanding of the principles, it cannot replace thorough reading of the texts nor can it guarantee success in the exam.

The seminar will be offered by Bill Page, P.Eng., LLB. Mr. Page has a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan in 1971; an MBA from the University of Alberta in 1975; an LLB from the University of Alberta in 1988; and a Certificate in Conflict Resolution from the Justice Institute of British Columbia in 1999. His major areas of expertise are in Intellectual Property Management and Management Counsel. Mr. Page’s expertise has been acquired through the Oil and Gas industry and the Public Sector.
