This presentation will provide a basic overview of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, including the purpose and scope, third party involvement and the application of section 15 which deals with proprietary information.

Lisa Wilde, LLB, as inquiries counsel, is responsible to provide the Commissioner and the General Counsel with legal advice on the Act. She served as part of the Technical Support Team for the FOIPP Legislative Review Committee and has been involved in recent amendments.

John Ennis was involved in setting up Alberta's Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner, where he has worked since 1995. As a Portfolio Officer, John mediates cases where parties have requested reviews by the Commissioner regarding access to information. He also investigates complaints regarding breaches of personal privacy done by public bodies.
