H.D. (Dale) Miller, P.Eng.

Dale Miller has served APEGGA for over ten years, including his election to Council in 1994 , as first vice president in 2000, and as President in 2001. He is a leader in water resources and water conservation. With over 28 years in the water resources industry, he has worked on a variety of projects, several of which have received awards.

Born and raised in Odessa, Saskatchewan, Dale graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1974 with a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering. Mr. Miller spent three years working in north-eastern Saskatchewan designing erosion and flood management projects. In 1977, he moved to southern Alberta, where he has made significant contributions to the irrigation industry. He is currently the director - Water Management for UMA Engineering Ltd. in Lethbridge. Prior to his current position, he was co-founder and principal of MPE Engineering Ltd. and district engineer for the Bow River Irrigation District.

The majority of his work has been in rehabilitation of irrigation works and the construction of small dams and reservoirs. His work was recently recognized by the Consultant Engineers of Alberta and Association of Consultant Engineers of Canada; one of his projects, East Arrowwood Syphon Replacement, won two awards of excellence and an award of merit. In addition, he served as project manager for the Raymond Reservoir Hydro Project, winning two awards of merit from the Consulting Engineers of Alberta.

His knowledge in water management, particularly water conservation, involved him in projects in India, Mexico and in the State of Washington. The latter work has been nominated for an award at the 2002 CEA Showcase Awards.
