EDMONTON, Alberta - The APEGGA Education Foundation proudly announced the recipients of its 2000 scholarships and awards recipients during Excellence in Education ceremonies in Edmonton and Calgary.

Established in 1996, The APEGGA Education Foundation is a registered charitable organization that aims to enhance and provide leadership in the education and development of engineers, geologists and geophysicists, and individuals wishing to enter these professions by investing approximately $85,000 annually.

The APEGGA Education Foundation facilitates donations and manages funds for educational purposes, furthers the professional development of engineers and geoscientists, supports Canadians pursuing careers in engineering, geology and geophysics, and supports projects and activities that foster an interest in science, math and technology. The Foundation serves the professions of engineering, geology and geophysics by assembling and managing funds, building endowments, encouraging voluntary donations, distributing awards and scholarships funds and supporting special projects.

The Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA), which established the Foundation, and its nearly 34,000 members work to promote an interest in math and science and science-based careers. APEGGA supports educators and students throughout Alberta by assisting in the development of math and science curricula, offering free classroom presentations demonstrating science and math principles, sponsoring and providing judges for judges for hands-on competitions and administering the annual APEGGA Teacher Awards program. APEGGA supports the Foundation by transferring funds to finance the scholarship and awards program.
