Keeping Members Informed
On Professional Development

APEGGA values the contributions that all members make to the Association and would like to encourage everyone to retain their membership. This includes those who feel that they do not meet the broad definition of practicing that is being used for the purpose of the Continuing Professional Development Program and must declare themselves to be non-practicing or, worse, might drop their membership altogether. APEGGA initiatives can take advantage of all the knowledge, skills and resources that our diversified membership brings, especially those senior professionals who may feel that they don't have a direct influence on the professions anymore. Your support of APEGGA and the Continuing Professional Development Program is appreciated. However, if you have concerns, it is important that you express them. The implementation of the program is in its infancy and the program will certainly be re-evaluated with time.

The Professional Development Department's goal is to retain all our members. For those few who are seriously considering dropping membership altogether, we ask that you reconsider. There are many reasons for retaining membership but during the next year APEGGA will be introducing a comprehensive package of member services that you may be able to take advantage of and that may enhance the value of your membership. In the interim, and if you are not influencing the practice of the professions, you should declare yourself to be non-practicing.

Annual dues for practicing and non-practicing members will be the same.

Several members have contacted APEGGA with respect to "Professional Specialization" categories (see Appendix III pages 25 and 26 of the Continuing Professional Development Guideline). Developed from Statistics Canada data, the categories reflect field of occupation. When you submit your completed questionnaire with your annual dues if a field of occupation is not listed, indicate "other" and specify an appropriate occupation. In the future, additional fields will be added.
