APEGGA Member Receives CCPE National Scholarship

Gordon Yang, P.Eng., a member of APEGGA currently employed by Motorla Canada Limited in Vancouver, is one of three recipients of Canadian Council of Professional Engineers (CCPE) Ð Manulife Financial Scholarships, valued at $10,000 each.

Also receiving similar scholarships are: Veronique Falmagne, ing., and Isabelle Villemure, ing., both members of l'Ordre des ingenieurs du Quebec. CCPE - Manulife Financial Scholarships support professional engineers completing further study or research in an engineering field.

Winners of other CCPE National Scholarships also were announced. The awards and the winners are:

CCPE - Meloche-Monnex Scholarships, valued at $7,500 each, awarded to Laurier Gauthier, ing. and Arthur Sit, P.Eng. Mr. Gauthier is a member of l'Ordre des ingenieurs du Quebec. Mr. Sit is a member of Professional Engineers Ontario. CCPE - Meloche-Monnex Scholarships provide financial assistance to professional engineers returning to university for further study or research in a field other than engineering.

CCPE - Encon Endowment, valued at $5,000 has been presented to Lou Areias, P.Eng. Mr. Areias is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of New Brunswick. The CCPE - Encon Endowment supports studies in engineering design investigation, risk management or material testing.

In announcing the scholarships, CCPE Interim President Wendy Ryan-Bacon, P.Eng., said: "In partnership with Manulife Financial, Meloche-Monnex and Encon Insurance Managers Inc., the CCPE is awarding a total of $50,000 in scholarships to six highly promising professional engineers," She added: "These individuals have outstanding academic credentials and impressive work experience. The essays submitted by these students shows strong motivation for achievement and tremendous potential for advancing science and technology in Canada."
