About APEGGA

With nearly 36,000 members, the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA) is the largest professional association in Alberta. The Association serves society and protects the public by regulating, enhancing and providing leadership for the professions of engineering, geology and geophysics in Alberta. Although the Association's primary goal is to regulate the professions in the interest of public safety, our members also contribute to Alberta in other ways.

APEGGA works cooperatively with educators to spark an interest among Alberta students in math and science by offering classroom presentations demonstrating math and science principles, participating in career day events, judging science projects, providing information on engineering, geology and geophysics careers and sponsoring awards and scholarships for students and teachers who excel in math and science.

Teacher Awards - "Tell Us Who Makes School Cool!"

Teachers who make math or science fun help encourage and inspire students to succeed academically. At various points in our lives we may encounter remarkable teachers. They make school cool. The APEGGA Teacher Awards Program recognizes these exceptional teachers for their enthusiasm and dedication.

Students, parents, principals and school superintendents can submit nominations for the 14 APEGGA Teacher Awards presented annually. At a reception in their honour, each winning teacher is presented with an award certificate and $1,000 to be used at their discretion to purchase teaching materials for their school.

Know of a teacher you would like to nominate?

The process is simple. Use the attached nomination form, send us a letter or use our online submit form. You must include:

  • The teacher's name
  • Subject and grade taught
  • School name and address
  • Why the teacher deserves this award

Don't forget to include your name, address and telephone number. Ask students, parents, other teachers or the school principal to support your nomination, and include their comments with your letter.

How are Nominations Judged?

The greatest emphasis is placed on selecting recipients among those nominated by students. All nominations will be reviewed to determine which teachers represent the ideals of the APEGGA Teacher Awards Program - enthusiasm, energy and interest. Local APEGGA volunteers will act as judges on ten judging committees across the province, helping to select the deserving recipients.

And the Winners Are…

If your teacher is chosen, we will notify the school. A special reception will be organized in your area to publicly recognize the teacher, and the local newspaper, radio and television stations will be invited to attend. Advertisements announcing the recipients' names will also be placed in your community newspaper and other publications.

If you have any questions about the APEGGA Teacher Awards Program or the nomination process, please contact APEGGA Public Relations at (780) 426-3990 in Edmonton or toll free at 1-800-661-7020.
