Other Organizations and Groups

Terms of Reference

I Major Objective

To contribute to the decision process within the outside organizations in all matters within the mandate and objectives of APEGGA and thus enhance public awareness of APEGGA's role in protecting the public interest.

II Specific Goals

1. To develop effective two-way communication of activities which are of interest to APEGGA and the outside organizations.
2. To provide input into the decisions of the outside organizations in areas where it is important that they complement the mandate of APEGGA.
3. To develop understanding of the policies and positions adopted by APEGGA in areas of interest to the outside organizations.
4. To enhance the quality and value of professional service to the public recognizing that APEGGA members practice their professions in a broad spectrum of organizations.

III Principal Activities

1. Attend regularly scheduled meetings of the outside organizations and report to APEGGA following each meeting.
2. Distribute APEGGA publications which directly affect the policies and activities of the outside organizations.
3. Report the status of APEGGA initiatives which directly affect the policies and activities of the outside organizations.
4. Assist the outside organizations in preparing requests to APEGGA for information and/or comments on specific activities.

IV Authority and Responsibility

The member appointed to an outside organization to represent APEGGA shall:

a) present the APEGGA position on subjects in which published guidelines or official policies have been adopted.
b) express personal opinions on matters on which there is no established APEGGA position, clearly indicating that they are personal opinions. (If an official APEGGA position is requested the Executive Director should be so informed.)
c) avoid comment which is in conflict with the official APEGGA position, or which is in conflict with the stated purpose of APEGGA.
d) inform APEGGA of any areas in which there is conflict of opinion or conflict of interest with respect to APEGGA's official position.

The following information should be obtained from the outside organization and attached to the Terms of Reference for reference by the appointed member.

Under Bylaw 14, Council may appoint professional members to represent the Association on the Engineering Faculty Councils and Science Faculty Councils of the Universities of Alberta and Calgary. Council may also appoint a professional member to represent APEGGA on the Council, governing body, or committees of any other organization or association.

The following are outside organizations on which the Association is currently represented, together with the name of the professional member filling the appointment.
