PROVINCIAL SCHOOL CHALLENGES
Grades 1-12
"Visions of Things to Come"

DOCUMENTATION

All entries must include a photograph of the team and their bridge in order to qualify. Include photos and documentation (see #3 in Rules and Regulations) for your school's participation and forward them (preferably via e-mail) to APEGGA.

Should APEGGA wish to use photos for publication at a later date, teams will be contacted for their permission.

Specification Check (Grades 1-12)

Bridge is examined and measured by judges/teachers to check whether it conforms to contest rules and specifications.
Any bridge that does not meet the requirements will be disqualified

Judging

Take a picture of the bridge and team members before the bridge is tested for strength.
Bridges are judged for neatness, design and creativity.
Bridge is weighed and its weight recorded.
Bridge is placed on supports (tables, blocks, etc.) set apart by the following distance:

Note: correction to grades.

  • Grades 1 - 6: 23 cm gap between supports
  • Grades 7 - 12: 36 cm gap between supports

Add weight in small increments to the flat 9 cm by 9 cm platform of the bridge.
· Keep loading weight until it collapses.
· Record the weight that was loaded in the step prior to destruction.
The bridge with the strongest load to mass ratio is the winner.
(e.g. load held divided by weight of the bridge)
In the event of a tie, neatness, creativity and design determine the winner.
