APEGGA DONATES $10,000 TO OIL SANDS
DISCOVERY CENTRE

FORT McMURRAY, Alberta -- The Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA) is donating $10,000 to the Friends of the Oil Sands Discovery Centre at a special presentation this evening.

The funds will be used to re-design the gallery at the Oil Sands Discovery Centre in Fort McMurray. The future gallery will feature several theme areas including geology and exploration, mining, the environment, and the marketplace; a public resource room; and children's zone.

APEGGA president, Dan Motyka, P.Eng. and executive director, Neil Windsor, P.Eng. will be on hand to present a cheque to Mike Ashar, Friends of the Oil Sands Discovery Centre fundraising chair (also executive vice president of Suncor Energy Oil Sands), and other members.

"APEGGA has taken a leadership role in promoting science and technology, particularly the role of geoscientists and engineers." says Motyka. "On behalf of the Association, I am pleased to support the Oil Sands Discovery Centre in its effort to educate the public on the history, science and technology of Alberta's oil sands industry."

Established in 1920, APEGGA serves society by regulating, enhancing and providing leadership in the practice of the professions in Alberta. Empowered by the Government of Alberta through legislation, the Association registers, sets practice standards, and determine disciplinary action, when necessary, for its members. With more than 30,000 members, APEGGA is the largest self-governing professional association in Alberta.
