From the Branches

Lunch, Learning, Lethbridge

BY JOHN TAKE, P.ENG.
Lethbridge Branch Chair

Hello again from the Sunny South, where APEGGA professionals have been using beautiful fall weather to their full advantage - whether it's pushing an extended construction season for all it is worth or enjoying a relaxing day on the golf course.

Another busy year for the Lethbridge Branch got under way Sept. 27, as 40 members attended our first Lunch and Learn session of the year. All five mayoralty candidates attended this function and spoke to their views on major challenges facing Lethbridge. Our next event, a technical tour of SRI Manufactured Homes directed by Ken Josuttes, P.Eng., was held on Oct. 25.

We have four or more Lunch and Learn sessions and tours planned for the rest of the year, along with a members' social night early in December, the President's Dinner in February 2002, and our popular family barbecue and picnic in the spring. We will wrap up with the traditional golf tournament just before summer.

Two special events, mentoring dinner and professional development day, are also being planned. Full details will be sent to branch members as they become available.

As well, local Outreach volunteers will be coordinating the attendance of University of Lethbridge engineering transfer students at select events, presenting scholarships to local high school students, attending career fairs, and arranging for a Science Olympics to coincide with National Engineering Week in March 2002.

Watch your e-mail inbox for more information, and we hope to see all of the Lethbridge Branch members out at these events. To add your e-mail address to our mailing list, send an e-mail to amcdonald@city.lethbridge.ab.ca.
