LUNCHTIME
FORUM
- Central
Alberta Branch’s
series of “ Lunchtime
Forum” events, held the first Tuesday of the month -
“Alexander
Way – Revamping 48th Street”
Many
cities today are undertaking projects that help revitalize their downtown. Red
Deer is no exception. Alexander Way ( 48 th Street ) was identified as a ' Key
Place’ in the Greater Downtown Action Plan in 2000. The City was fortunate
to receive $1 Million Dollars in grant monies from the Alberta Centennial Legacy
Fund. This money was designated to start this much anticipated project in Red
Deer ’s downtown.
Carol Craig, C.S.L.A., Senior Landscape Architect, UMA Engineering Ltd.,
will take you through the process of preliminary design for this two kilometre
pedestrian/vehicle link. Traffic calming (the pedestrian vs. the vehicle), structural
soils (trees vs. paving), and how the project will be staged (time vs. dollars)
are some of the topics to be presented. The proposed APEGGA Central Alberta Branch
contribution to this streetscape will also be discussed.
This presentation may be
of interest specifically to those members involved in the environment and civil
works, and generally to all members.
