MEMBERS PROVIDE FEEDBACK ON APEGGA'S NEW STRATEGIC PLAN

Thirty-two members and other stakeholders, a relatively small number, invested a significant amount of time recently to review our draft strategic plan and to provide thoughtful, and in many cases detailed, comments.

The 28 pages of comments, compiled in aggregate, were reviewed by the Strategic Plan Task Force in April so that the input could be appropriately included in the updated draft of the strategic plan. The plan was the focus of Council’s strategic planning session, held May 4-6 in Edmonton. After final revisions to the plan are made, it goes in June to Council for approval. Once approved, it will be reflected in the 2006 business plan and budget.

“Hopefully both respondents and the general membership will realize that their efforts actually influenced the strategic planning process,” says Strategic Plan Task Force Chair and APEGGA President Larry Staples, P.Eng.

Upon reviewing the plan, stakeholders were specifically asked to comment upon the issues facing the professions during the next 10 years as summarized by four main themes: Regulate Practice, Lead the Professions, Uphold Members, and Communicate and Consult. In addition, they were asked to comment on a set of specific goals, outcomes and tactics, and some key terms defined in the plan such as “uphold members,” “serve the public interest” and “agent of change.”

The most popular means of providing feedback was via the online response mechanism. Comments were also provided by fax, e-mail and telephone before the March 31 deadline. The draft strategic plan and feedback form was available in the March issue of The PEGG, online and as a PDF on the website. In addition, printed copies were distributed to various stakeholders outside of APEGGA.
