JOE CHYC-CIES, P.ENG.

Joe graduated from the Technical University of Wroclaw, Poland and obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science in Civil Engineering in 1977. He has held various positions in construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of roadways within The City of Calgary over the past 19 years. Currently, for The City of Calgary, he is working as a Materials and Research Engineer.

Joe’s current major responsibilities include:

  • Setting and monitoring construction standards and specifications of The City of Calgary Roads

  • Managing the Municipal Pavement Management Application including the road network database and monitoring its performance

  • Development and implementation of pavement rehabilitation strategies

  • Reviewing and approving all pavement structural designs for subdivision development, major transportation and pavement rehabilitation projects

  • Compliance testing program of the asphalt and concrete use in all City road construction projects and subdivisions

  • Review of Subdivision Developments geotechnical reports, investigation of hill-slope stability and deep fill reports

  • Researching new materials, maintenance methods and infrastructure construction standards

  • Industrial and Professional Liaison; member of CTAA, Western Provinces Asphalt Rubber Program and TAC Soils and Materials and Pavements Standing Committees
